Reduct.Video at D.C. Bar: Ethical AI Selection for Criminal Defenders

Jeff Sherr leads a CLE webinar for D.C. Bar members on ethical AI selection for criminal defenders

On May 21, 2026, Jeff Sherr, Senior Resident Public Defender at Reduct, led a CLE webinar for The District of Columbia Bar members titled Not Their Tools, Not Their Rules: An Ethical AI Selection Toolkit for Criminal Defenders.

The session brought together criminal defense practitioners for a focused discussion on one of the most pressing issues facing defense offices today: how to evaluate AI tools without compromising client confidentiality.

Jeff walked attendees through a practical framework covering vendor scorecards, contract red flags, data retention risks, and the ethical obligations attorneys carry when adopting AI. Topics ranged from subprocessor liability and zero data retention requirements to the conflicts of interest that arise when vendors serve both defense and prosecution.

The D.C. Bar awarded 1.5 ethics and professional responsibility CLE credits for the session.

The webinar is part of Reduct's ongoing work supporting legal professionals navigating AI adoption in practice.
