Terms of Service Update | Reduct.Video

We recently shared an important announcement about our commitment to serving the criminal defense community and some changes we made to center that mission. We are proud to be the industry leader on Terms of Service (TOS) that honor our commitment to serve as a robust and responsive partner for defenders. To that end, here are some highlights we are excited to share.

REDUCT TOS: Customers retain all rights to their data.

WHY IT MATTERS: We know it is critical that your privileged and confidential data belong to you and your clients, not us. Plain and simple. Not all companies see it this way- some view your data as theirs, compromising your ethical duty of confidentiality and subjecting your sensitive client data to whatever application the company deems useful.

REDUCT TOS: No extensive third-party rights.

WHY IT MATTERS: With Reduct, you don’t have to worry about the safety and security of hidden third party vendors. We are transparent about the only essential third party service we use: All of our services are hosted on infrastructure provided by Google Cloud Platform's (GCP) data centers, with military grade physical security, to ensure your data is kept safe, secure, and available at all times.

This commitment to security extends to capabilities provided by artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) models in our product. We take a hands-on approach, operating the vast majority of our models (including transcription, silence detection, speaker detection, and text embedding) ourselves, using a combination of our own proprietary software and carefully vetted open-source models. For the few specialized functions where we don't run the model ourselves, such as our Large Language Model (LLM), we leverage GCP's Enterprise-grade Vertex AI services with zero-day retention, ensuring your data never leaves the trusted GCP environment. We use Enterprise-grade services so that your data is covered by Enterprise terms, which prohibit third parties training models on your data in our system.

REDUCT TOS: No customer data will be used to train/improve Reduct or any tools we work with.

WHY IT MATTERS: For many companies, your data is the raw material of their success, mined to train their systems or strengthen tools that serve law enforcement. We reject that idea completely. What you upload is not ours to use, analyze, or learn from; it belongs to you, and to the people you defend.

We improve Reduct the right way: through the craft of our engineers, the insight of our in-house public defenders, and by listening to the feedback of the communities we serve. We are building technology that honors confidentiality, strengthens trust, and stands on the side of freedom, not on the backs of your clients’ stories.

To underscore how serious we are about this, Reduct requires a license of that data from you to process your data, so that you can use the awesome Reduct features like transcriptions, video clips, and exports. Most significantly–the buck stops with us. Our licenses are not sub-licensable: we ensure third-parties don’t have access to create or use your data.

REDUCT TOS: When permissible, we will notify customers if we are subpoenaed regarding their data and cooperate in any effort to obtain confidential treatment.

WHY IT MATTERS: Our allegiance is to our customers– the criminal defense community, and to the people whose freedom depends on your work. Trust is not a marketing claim for us — it’s a moral duty. If the system comes for your data, we will not stand silent. We will act with caution, transparency, and courage — keeping you informed, standing beside you, and doing everything the law allows to keep what is privileged, protected; and what is sacred, safe.

Reduct is here for you, the defender community. We don’t serve prosecutors, and we don’t serve law enforcement. This ensures we won’t have a conflict of interest, and can focus on developing products that serve your needs. Unlike companies whose bottom line is tied to the success of your adversaries or whose business model is based on selling or mining your data, we are aligning our interests with yours.
