Reduct.Video at the Chief Public Defender Leadership Conference 2025

In June 2025, the Public Defender Association of Pennsylvania (PDAP) hosted a Chief Defender Leadership Conference where Pennsylvania's chiefs and first assistant public defenders gathered to exchange best practices for managing PD offices from across the state.

The event provided a space to discuss leadership, collaboration, and solutions to the growing challenges in public defense, while also exploring new innovations. Among the featured presentations was one from Reduct.Video, where our co-founder, Prabhas Pokharel discussed how Reduct helps public defenders and defense teams efficiently review discovery—such as bodycam, interrogations, and surveillance footage.

A tidal wave of audio/video discovery

Public defenders face a growing challenge—a flood of audio and video discovery:

  • bodycam footage and police interviews

  • 911 recordings and surveillance footage

  • jail calls

  • interrogation recordings, forensic interviews, and more

The volume of audiovisual discovery continues to grow every year.

All of this audio and video evidence has to be reviewed, analyzed, and prepared for trial—which often means sifting through tens or even hundreds of hours of recordings. It is extremely time-consuming, especially given the number of cases every public defender has to handle.

The presentation highlighted these problems and showcased how Reduct’s accurate AI transcription and video editing solution can help defenders to:

  • Quickly turn hours of footage into searchable text, often catching details humans miss.

  • Correct text and label speakers as needed.

  • Break language barriers by translating audio into other languages.

  • Find key moments by searching the transcript and reviewing video side-by-side.

  • Select text to instantly create and download the video clip.

  • Combine multiple clips into one video exhibit to tell a clear story.

  • Export transcripts in various formats and videos with synced captions.

When a public defender recently saw some of those tools, he remarked, "I hope the DAs don’t have this." It got us thinking — what if public defenders actually had better technology?

Lastly, the presentation highlighted powerful features that go beyond the transcript—like our multicam sync, a long-standing capability that sets us apart competitively, and other advanced tools built to address the real-world challenges public defenders face.

Advanced capabilities beyond the transcript

Timeline view and multicam sync

Reduct’s "Timeline View and Multicam Sync" is a mature feature, used on thousands of recordings since its launch last year. It works with any body cam and surveillance footage that contains timing information—helping public defenders organize and view multiple recordings side by side in a unified timeline.

Ask the recording a question

Reduct’s newly launched "Ask the recording a question" feature is similar to ChatGPT. This feature lets public defenders and teams ask questions related to a recording. Answers are generated solely from the content of that specific recording making it more accurate with context-specific responses.

Identify and track specific objects or individuals

Reduct’s visual search is currently in development. This powerful feature lets you track objects or people—like a gun or a suspect—across video frames. You can spotlight key evidence or, in reverse, use it to blur a minor’s face before sharing in court.

If you’d like to know more about how this feature could support your work, feel free to reach out—we’d be happy to share more details.

Reduct is already trusted by offices like the Colorado State Public Defender, which has over a thousand staff using the platform.

All public defenders or private defense lawyers can try Reduct for free on a case—regardless of duration—with no commitments.
